Mirror, Mirror: Rebuilding Your Self-Worth After Divorce
Who Am I Now?
After the dust settled and the “we” became “just me,”
I remember standing in front of the mirror and thinking, “I don’t recognize this woman anymore.”
My eyes looked tired.
My spirit felt thin.
And my confidence? M.I.A. 😔
Divorce has a way of stripping not just your relationship—but your identity.
When Your Confidence Is in Pieces
Maybe you’ve thought things like:
“I wasn’t good enough to keep.”
“I must not be lovable.”
“No one will want me after this.”
Sis, those are lies. And they don’t come from God.
What happened to you does not define your worth.
Your value doesn’t expire because someone couldn’t see it.
Let me say that again for the woman who’s reading this with tears in her eyes:
You are still worthy.
You are still beautiful.
And you are still called.
Rebuilding Self-Worth—One Truth at a Time
Here’s what helped me begin to reclaim my confidence:
🔄 1. I challenged the story I was telling myself.
Instead of “I was rejected,” I started saying, “That door closed because I deserve better.”
📖 2. I clung to scripture like an anchor.
“You are fearfully and wonderfully made.” — Psalm 139:14
I said it over and over. I wrote it in documents and emails to myself. Until it started to feel true again.
🙋🏾♀️ 3. I reintroduced myself to… me.
I made a list of things I loved before the relationship. There were people who I lost touch with.
Things that brought me joy. Things I let go of to keep peace.
Then, I started doing them again—one little step at a time.
💬 Truth Talk: You're More Than What Was Done to You
Yes, maybe you yelled. Maybe you stayed too long. Maybe you gave too much.
But you are not your mistakes. You are not your trauma.
You are still God’s daughter—with a crown, even when it’s tilted.
